Towerborne is redefining the looter-brawler—a multiplayer, side-scrolling beat-’em-up where every clash showers you with gear, every level unlocks new skills, and every update refreshes it all. That action RPG loop we know and love meets the nostalgia of tried-and-true brawlers … and on April 29, we expanded to a new platform for the first time, bringing Aces together across their preferred tech.
To celebrate, the Official Xbox Podcast sat down with Stoic’s CEO Trisha Stouffer and game director Daniel McLaren for a deep dive into what’s changed, what’s next, and why feedback is the studio’s north star.
Why Towerborne feels familiar and fresh
- Co-op, Couch or Cloud – A goal-based Group Finder, full cross-play, and brand-new couch co-op let you bash pesky beasts whether you’re on a handheld PC during lunch or a console on the sofa.
- A World That Talks Back – A new opening cinematic plants you in the sky-piercing Belfry, while handcrafted map nodes pull NPCs like Paloma directly into missions. Devs call it “putting scaffolding in place”; you’ll call it motivation every time the fog clears and a voiced quest marker pops.
- Art & Audio With Personality – We’ve made a huge visual leap over the last half year—revamped lighting, crisper textures, and more. Since the last update, we’ve spun up some LoFi Belfry Beats to add to bring that in-game spirit energy to the rest of your life, too.
- Combat that Grows With You –Early-access Aces asked for more agency, so we swapped static level-ups for Class Skill trees. Mender’s Flasks replace the old three-lives system, letting you heal mid-brawl or auto-res on death, and support perks can even top up the whole squad.
- Live-Ops That Listen – We’ve been experimenting and moving fast with what works (and fixing what doesn’t): “Courage’s Time Trials” began as a two-week test; player cheers turned it permanent. Our live team now prototypes wild modes, ships fast, and only graduates what the community loves, proving this looter-brawler is built with its players, not just for them.
Become a Founder
Jump into Towerborne wherever you play—grab Founder status in Steam Early Access to support fresh content while securing exclusive cosmetics, or slide into Xbox Game Preview on console or PC, where the Founder’s Pack is optional and Game Pass members dive in free. Either way, community feedback is already driving sharper co-op, deeper skill trees, and a sleeker UI, proving players truly steer the ship.
