Understanding Curios

Greetings, Curio Curios Aces –

You know how the saying goes: no guts, no glorious loot! … or something like that. Here’s what you need to know about Towerborne’s version of a ‘battle pass’ system … much of it familiar, with a few nuances.

  • A Curio is a vault with various goodies. A Curio Core is the key you need to access the items inside that chest.
  • Writs are the in-game currency you earn from just playing the game.

Once you have a Curio – unless a Curio is specifically tied to a time-limited event – you keep the ability to obtain its contents forever. However, if you miss the chance to get a particular Curio, it might take a long time to come back—or the items could become available only through the premium store.

How Curios Work

In some ways, a Curio functions like a battle pass. Simply put, players earn Writs by playing the game. These Writs allow players to unlock Curio content, but rather than progressing along a fixed reward track, Curios give players flexibility in choosing which rewards to unlock. Players can skip rewards they aren’t interested in and prioritize others.

Moreover, unlike typical battle passes, where rewards expire at the end of a season, the two main types of Curios never expire once unlocked**. This allows players to unlock rewards at their own pace without the pressure of season deadlines, while still encouraging periodic logins to claim rewards for later. It’s a bit of a “choose your own adventure” that can be enjoyed at your own pace.

Curio Types

Curios come in two main forms:

  • Free Curios are available to all players and unlocked simply through earning Writs through regular gameplay.
  • Premium Curios require a Curio Core to activate, offering more exclusive and distinctive cosmetic rewards. Curio Cores can primarily be purchased with Belfry Bucks—Towerborne’s premium currency—in the in-game Store, although you might occasionally earn them through special events or grants.

** On some occasions, a themed Curio, its contents, or themed Writs may be tied to seasonal events or limited-time modes (i.e., Grandeur). In this instance, obtaining those rewards will have a set deadline before they vanish back into the Ebb … in these moments, satiate those FOMO instincts!
